Services
One physician, holding the whole picture.
A focused set of physician-led services for understanding the record, preparing for decisions, coordinating care, and addressing the practical barriers that complicate serious illness.
Medical Record Review
A physician-level interpretation of imaging, pathology, operative notes, and labs, returned as a plain-language summary of what is known, what is missing, and what it means for the decision in front of you.
Second-Opinion Coordination
Identifying the right specialist, assembling the record packet, and framing the question so the opinion that comes back is actually worth having.
Care Coordination Across Specialists
Four physicians, three portals, and no one holding the whole picture. I hold it — tracking what each team knows, what they have not been told, and where the plan might be contradicting itself.
Appointment Preparation & Accompaniment
Deciding what to ask before you are in the room, then being present for the consult — asking the clinical questions, capturing what was actually said, and translating it afterward.
Hospital & Bedside Support
Attending physician rounds during admissions, communicating directly with the hospitalist and consulting teams, and maintaining continuity across shift changes so nothing is lost in handoff.
Care Conference Representation
I will attend family meetings and goals-of-care discussions, and interpret tumor board outcomes, so no decision is made on incomplete information.
Discharge & Post-Acute Planning
Facility vetting, medication reconciliation, and follow-up scheduling that may affect your health outcomes.
Long-Distance Family Oversight
Ongoing monitoring for a parent or loved one in another state — with one physician seeing the whole picture and reporting back to the family in language everyone understands.
Insurance Navigation & Appeals
Choosing intelligently among employer or marketplace plans, establishing what a policy actually covers before treatment begins, pursuing prior authorizations, and appealing denials with the clinical argument a medical reviewer will recognize.
Billing Review & Negotiation
I review hospital and physician bills line by line for duplicate charges, coding errors, and out-of-network surprises, then negotiate directly with billing departments and pursue reimbursement where it is owed.
Leave, Disability & Documentation
FMLA paperwork, short- and long-term disability applications, and employer medical documentation prepared and clinically substantiated the first time, when a denial can cost months of income.
Appointment Access & Expediting
Securing earlier appointments, moving referrals and imaging forward, and sequencing the calendar so testing, consultations, and treatment decisions happen in the right order rather than whenever a slot happens to open.
Why White Coat Advocate
Why it matters that your advocate is a physician.
- I read the record myself.
- Imaging, pathology, operative notes, and labs — I work from the primary record rather than a summary of it. I explain what it means for your care, help you formulate the medically relevant questions to ask your doctors, and make sure those questions get answered as part of a plan built around your situation.
- I answer only to you.
- No hospital, insurer, provider network, or referral source employs me or pays me. Therefore, the work I provide is not influenced by anything other than what is in your best interest.
- One physician, start to finish.
- The physician who reads the first page of your record is the same one on the phone with your oncologist a month later. You never have to re-explain your history to someone new, and nothing falls through the gap between people who each saw only part of it.
- I have been the patient, too.
- I trained as a surgeon and cared for thousands of patients, but it wasn’t until a life-threatening illness put me in a hospital bed that my perspective changed. I learned how hard it is to ask the right questions when you are frightened and exhausted. This profound experience has shaped how I work with every family I take on.
How We Meet
Virtual or in person, by arrangement.
Based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, White Coat Advocate serves patients and families throughout the Triad, across North Carolina, and nationwide. Services are available virtually or in person by arrangement.
How It Works
A deliberate, unhurried start.
No intake queue and no call center. Your first conversation is with a physician, not a scheduler.
-
Step One
Complimentary Consultation
Thirty minutes, no charge, entirely confidential. You describe the situation; I tell you candidly whether advocacy would meaningfully change the outcome.
-
Step Two
Record Review & Scope
I gather and read the complete file, then return a written assessment with a defined scope of engagement and transparent pricing.
-
Step Three
Active Advocacy
In the room or on the record — coordinating, questioning, and holding the thread across every specialist involved.
Scope of Practice
White Coat Advocate is not a medical practice and does not replace your treating physicians. We do not diagnose, prescribe, order tests, or provide emergency medical services. We provide physician-led advocacy, education, care coordination, and support so patients and families can better understand and navigate the care they are already receiving.
The Next Step
You do not have to navigate this alone.
The first conversation is complimentary and does not commit you to anything. It simply puts a physician's judgment where it belongs: on your side.
